“Tied up a handful of reliable patterns on the Grip hooks & took them out for a walk on my favourite trout stream. Resolved that unless I was blanking I'd fish them exclusively.


End of the day, I'm smiling ear to ear!!! Of all the fish hooked, I lost but 2, and one of those was (of course) the best of the day, who took while I was seriously off balance, made a mad dash for strong current and deep water while I was holding the rod in one hand, and that above the grip. So I never got a good hook set and he threw the hook. No explanation for the other, but any hook will lose the odd one.

Thing is, I deliberately allowed several to go slack and lifted the line a few seconds later to find them still on. Every fish I played more casually than I normally would. One slipped the hook by my leg while I was letting it have its way with me. A number jumped repeatedly (the wild brownies in this stream are well-known for taking to the air). My fishing partner was watching expectantly and was every bit as impressed as I. Best of all, the hook releases so easily with absolutely minimal damage to the fish!!

Snagged bottom & wood numerous times (as you will on this stream). Hook bent at one point and was easily bent back into shape. Point retained its sharpness very well. In fact the only bad thing to report is that I lost one cast up in a tree and they refused to come down when called."
